French Living was established in 1994 by husband and wife team, Stéphane and Louise Luiggi.Stéphane,
from the beautiful French island of Corsica, wanted to bring the French passion for food and eating to the UK, and so opened a shop in Nottingham. A restaurant in the basement was launched in 1996, continuing the theme of French living through the enjoyment of good, honest, quality food.
Louise decided to write a book about her life, focusing on her journey towards a passion for food
and towards a deeper understanding of her Corsican family. Come to the Table was published as a hard-back by Piatkus Books in June 2004 with the Daily Mail praising it as “a seductive tale, deliciously told - unputdownable”
The latest development (Sept 2010) is the launch of the restaurant room at groundfloor level. The shop shelves have been replaced by tables and chairs, and the retail offering limited to cheese, wine and charcuterie. Diners can now eat at pavement level and keep in touch with what happens out in the street, or go down to the basement for that total escape feeling!
This was made possible with the arrival of Frederic and Pantxika as directors. Fred, 34, comes from Meaux near Paris and brings a wealth of experience in front of house and service organisation. His partner in life Pantxi, 35 year old chef from the Basque country, has already exported her knowledge of French Provincial cuisine to the USA, Canada and Australia.
Today French Living is more than a Restaurant / Cheese and Wine shop. It offers advice on how to cook, eat and shop the French way and provides an informal and relaxed environment to eat, shop, chat and even practice your French. French Living continues to be family run, continues to source genuine French products and ingredients and so maintains a high level of service and commitment to offering the highest quality at reasonable prices.
